Soccer Council Minutes
June 27, 2005 Meeting Attendees: Rich
Modaff, Amy Eager, Diane Carlson, Tom Blain, Lisa Olson, Brenda Nicholson,
Jeff Herbers, Bill Connors, Roseanne Hatfield, Tom Petterson, Bill Connors,
Mary Calley, Rita Carpenter 1. T-Shirt Designs The board
discussed the two T-shirt designs.
It decided on one of the designs with some changes. Diane Carlson will follow up with
Prairie Threads and give T-shirt color options to Bill Connors. The shirts are needed by the Coaches Meeting
in August. 2. Equipment Turn So far, just a
few coaches have brought their equipment over to the Hatfield’s’ house for
storage. Commissioners will
contact coaches and ask that they bring their equipment to the Hatfield’s by
July 10th. Another
equipment manager is needed to work with Kurt Schmidt. Mary Beth Anderson will restock and replenish
the first aid kits. Brenda
Nicholson volunteered to make labels for the ball bags. 3. Field Maintenance The
U-10 field at St. John’s has been reseeded. It needs an inch of rain each week. If this field is not ready in the
fall, then the U-10 games will need to be played on some other field yet to
be determined. In return for use
of its field, St. John’s Church has requested that the field not be used on
Wednesdays or Sunday mornings so that players can attend church
activities. The board will
respect this request by not scheduling games or practices during these
times. This will be discussed
with coaches at the coaches meeting in August. The
issue of where and when U-6 should play its games in the fall was discussed
in detail. The options include
Countryside, Levi Leonard (Lincoln and 4th Ave.), and the middle
school battlefield (currently no goals). Brenda and Mike Nicholson will talk to the school to
determine if soccer could be played on the middle school battlefield. U-6 games could be played on Tuesdays
or Saturdays. Issues to consider
include availability of a playground, bathroom, and parking and conflicts
with other soccer and baseball games.
4. Fall Registration Registration
is down so far compared to last year’s numbers. The board discussed what to do about late
registrations. Amy Eager will
place an ad in the Review as a final reminder to register for fall soccer,
indicating that spots may not be available. It was suggested that registration take place earlier in
the spring. Coaches could remind
players to register for next year. This

approved next year’s calendar with the understanding that it is subject to
change. The mandatory
Fall Coaches Meeting for in-house coaches is scheduled for August 15th. An e-mail will be sent to all coaches
to remind them of the date. The Coaches
Clinic will take place on September 7th. (It will be held again on October 18th in
Verona.) The club will pay for
coaches to attend. Amy Eager
will contact City Hall to reserve Lake Leota for that day. Picture Day
will be September 17th for in-house teams, not MAYSA. The board will need to further consider
how to best schedule pictures for everyone’s convenience. We have a volunteer to help on
Picture Day. Youth Soccer
Night at the high school varsity game is on September 13th and
will include both in-house and MAYSA teams. No Silent
Saturday is planned at this time. The date for
the Annual General Meeting has not yet been set. The date for
Jeff Herber’s referee training is yet to be determined. 6. Fall Coaches Meeting The Fall
Coaches Meeting is scheduled for August 15th. Amy Eager will arrange to have the
meeting in the high school media room.
Lisa Olson brought copies of the agenda for the board to discuss. The meeting will begin at 7:00; board
members should arrive at 6:00 to help assemble the coaches’ packets so that
all materials and information for the coaches will be available at the
meeting. All coaches
will be encouraged to complete a Wysa Coaches Risk Management Form. Coaches will pay the one-time $10
fee. Amy Eager will
put together a directory of coaches to provide to the commissioners. Also, a commissioners binder should
be put together to help explain their duties and responsibilities. 7. Volunteers The board is
putting together a list of volunteers and the activities for which help is
needed. 8. Newspaper Coverage The Evansville
Soccer Club received good coverage with articles and pictures in last week’s
Evansville Review. 9. British Soccer Camps Rita Carpenter
reported that so far about 50 players have registered for the summer
camps. They will take place the
week of July 18th – 22nd. The registration deadline without penalty is July 8th 10. MAYSA Teams A committee
should be formed this winter to evaluate the MAYSA team try-outs for next
year. They need to be held after
June 1st 11. New West Side Park Soccer Fields
